Birmingham Botanical Gardens: Surprise Proposal

It was the perfect day for a surprise proposal at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens! Dalton reached out to me after receiving a referral from his friend, Daniel, who is also getting married in the coming months.

It is an honor to be asked to do a proposal because it is such a monumental moment in life and one that should be celebrated. I love that my past brides and grooms trust me enough to tell their family and friends about my work. It means the world because it is so much more than a job to me. This work of documenting special moments such as Shanae’s and Dalton’s brings me joy because it brings other’s joy, and getting to witness these moments is something I never want to take for granted.

When it comes to a surprise proposal, timing is everything. Of course, every guy wants to be able to pull off the perfect surprise with perfect weather, and no hiccups. We were hoping for the rain to hold off, and although it sprinkled a little bit during the actual proposal, the majority of the rain happened before and after.

Dalton expressed to me that the most important element to this surprise proposal is that Shanae’s son, Gavin could be present. I don’t know about y’all, but seeing Gavin in these pictures pretty much defines the term “tear-jerker” because I know, that in this very moment, a new family was born. Those kind of moments can’t be replaced and the fact that I got to be there to capture it on camera means everything.

Shanae’s ring is an absolute stunner. It is an opal stone set in vintage gold surrounded by diamonds. Not only was Shanae completely surprised, but she fell in love with this ring the moment she saw it. I love that it is so unique and something that will undoubtedly be passed down for generations to come.

Shanae and Dalton’s wedding will be sometime next year and I couldn’t be more thrilled for the THREE of them. I know that the tears I see in these images are none other than the happiest of tears. Tears that speak a thousand words of love, happiness, and unity between these three wonderful people. I can’t wait to see what their future holds. ❤️
