Brett and Macy: Japanese Gardens in Birmingham, AL

Brett and Macy’s engagement session was a blast from start to finish. These two are a match made in Heaven and they are so fun to be around. I laughed so much during the session and as you can see, Brett had Macy laughing too with his goofy personality. They made their session such a fun memory that I know they will look back on and laugh.

Brett is stationed in Texas and was only able to be in town for a few days so I’m so glad we were able to work it out. I originally had my associate photographer scheduled to shoot this session because of my due date, but since my newborn came early, I was able photograph this session after all. It was my first session back after having a baby, and surprisingly, the weather was so perfect and it was a fantastic day for an engagement session in Birmingham, Alabama.

You would literally never know we shot these images a couple days before Christmas! The sun was shining, the trees were showing color, and these images turned out so beautiful! We shot the entire session at the Birmingham Botanical Gardens and that gave us enough time to actually explore the Gardens in their entirety without changing locations. I usually don’t have time for the Japanese Gardens, but we made the time during this session, and the pictures did not disappoint! It helped that we had the entire place to ourselves. That’s rare at this location, but I guess the busy time of year gave us a quiet day at the Gardens.

Macy’s ring is a stunner. I mean 😍😍😍. I also absolutely love their color combinations. This sage green color has made its appearance this season and I love it paired with all the neutral creams and whites. I love a neutral color palette but to me, that also includes muted pastels and a little pop of color here and there.

My favorite part of the day was when Macy asked me to help them create some awkward poses as a gag gift for their parents and I was dying at the poses they came up with! This is by far the funniest thing I have ever seen and I cannot believe they came up with this idea and made it a reality. Brett’s mom totally believed that the awkward photos were the real thing and was not surprised at all that Brett would do something like this.

Also, can we talk about their sweet poses too? I love how Brett dipped Macy and how they so clearly love each other. It showed in EVERY SINGLE PHOTO and it’s something that makes my job more than a job. It’s moments like these that I love to capture and showcase for the rest of the world to see.

I can’t wait to see Brett and Macy again for their wedding in May. It’s sure to be a good time when two people know how to not only express their love for one another, but to let loose and have a good time. Life is too short to waste it away without laughter, joy, and making the most of every moment. That’s exactly who Brett and Macy are and I left the session feeling inspired to make every day a happy one.
